Where and How Are Silk Flowers Made?

Although small high-end manufacturing centers can still be found in Paris and New York, China produces the vast bulk of silk flowers for the commercial display and home decor market today. Building upon their ancient cultural traditions of celebrating the beauty of flowers through poetry, painting, and calligraphy, the Chinese are among today's foremost international silk flower designers and manufacturers, bending the various natural and artificial materials to their enduring artistic vision. Recent advances in materials, finishes, and manufacturing techniques have led to a new worldwide manufacturing standard that focuses on reproducing blossom and leaf in the most intricate detail. Though the term "silk flowers" continues in use, the material of today's artificial flower is most often high quality synthetic fiber.

Incredibly lifelike designs are created by heat-pressing high quality plastics and synthetic fibers into botanically accurate and finely detailed petal, leaf and stem molds. The individual pieces are then assembled and arranged by hand. And the most intricate natural details, such as the color gradations in flower petals and leaves, are often painted by hand, making it hard distinguish artificial from real. 

Real Touch Flowers represent the newest technical advance in the creation of lifelike, soft and flexible artificial flowers and foliage. Real Touch is an umbrella term for the great variety of thin-petaled, individually assembled flowers and greenery with that wonderful real life look and touch. The latest additions to our Portfolio are Preserved and Dried Floral and Foliage Wreaths.  Dried wreaths are hand made of natural botanicals that have been dried under controlled conditions to retain their natural color as much as possible. Preserved Wreaths have been preserved with glycerin and a dye to bring out the natural color of the finished product.  The glycerin replaces the water in the plant material and makes the finished product soft and pliable. Preserved floral materials may 'bleed' their color if they get wet, so reasonable caution should be taken to prevent this. Both types of products should be displayed indoors, out of direct sunlight to forestall premature fading of the color of flowers and foliage.  If the wreaths become dusty, they may be gently cleaned with the use of a hair dryer turned to the lowest setting.
